SENIOR LIVING FOR VETERANS
Financial Assistance for Veterans
The Department of Veteran Affairs offers financial assistance to war-era veterans and their surviving spouses called Aid and Attendance (A&A). Veteran’s Aid and Attendance Program is a Federal benefit for wartime Veterans and their spouses. Veterans and their spouses may be entitled to receive tax-free financial assistance to help offset the cost of Assisted Living. Veterans with honorable military service of at-least 90days, with one day during a period of war should apply. In addition to meeting service requirements, the Veteran and/or spouse must meet medical and financial criteria. Refer to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for more details.
The 2026 reimbursement rates for the A&A Pension Program for those within an Assisted Living or Specialized Memory Care Community can provide up to $2424.00 per month to a veteran and $1558.00 per month to a surviving spouse. Dependent on marital status and dependency, up to $2,873.00 per month to a Veteran and spouse.
“Opening New Doors” can put you in direct contact with a Veteran’s Service Officer in your region who can help you apply for this benefit.
Discounts for Veterans: In addition to the financial assistance from the Department of Veteran Affairs, some Assisted Living and Memory Care Communities may offer discounted rent for Veterans.
